Medivore™
Enabling a circular transition for medical devices
The increasing use of medical devices is a global mega trend. Devices are becoming more complex as digital technology advances, and volumes are growing exponentially as more and more people access advanced healthcare and more patient care is moved from hospitals to homes.
This is a positive development, but if unaddressed will come at a big cost for the environment. The current production and consumption of medical devices is not sustainable.
The Medivore collection system has been developed in collaboration with world leading pharmaceutical companies to address this problem. It enables new circular business models for medical devices by facilitating smart, safe and secure collection of devices so that they can be recycled, refurbished or reused.
While helping manufacturers and producers transition from linear to circular, the system is tailored to meet the strict requirements for handling of medicines and medical devices.

Collection of Unused Medicines
Over reliance on linear devices isn’t the only sustainability issue the healthcare sector is facing today. Unused and leftover medicines is a growing health and environmental hazard globally.
Drug abuse and unintentional poisoning among both adults and children consuming leftover medicines is common. While improper disposal of medicines causes ecological damage as pharmaceuticals leak into the environment and our water systems. But it also poses direct health risks for humans, such as the evolution of multi-resistant bacteria from exposure to antibiotics and other antimicrobial drugs.
The Medivore collection system is therefore designed to also facilitate secure and safe disposal of unused and leftover medicines. Aiding pharmacies and other actors that are obliged by regulations to take back unused medicines from consumers and patients. The system automates a return process that often is carried out manually over the counter. A process also associated with health risks for the staff handling the returned products.
